2021 X4 Pro Amlogic S905X4 AV1 TV Box Review

2021 X4 Pro Amlogic S905X4 AV1 TV Box Review

So today we have the second model called the 2021 X4 Pro and at this one runs on the new Amlogic S905X4 CPU. It looks identical to the X3 Pro and in many ways it is. It has the same RGB lighting the same body and I/O ports. But on the inside it’s the new Amlogic S905X4 chipset. Unlike its previous model the new X4 Pro features AV1 decoding which is the new video format for high quality video even higher than your conventional HEVC videos. It also runs on Android 10-Q operating system and upgrade from Android 9 pie in its previous model with great benchmark scores.

After reviewing its hardware and features there was still some critical features missing from the firmware that takes away from the great TV Box experience we were anticipating with S905X4. And it’s not only this model but other brands as well have seen before short on firmware compatibility. However we remain hopeful that they will get it right and we can finally advance past Amlogic S905X3.

Final Thoughts

It appears that the firmware developers for the new Amlogic S905X4 chipset are struggling to get the right essential features working. Due to this the community including myself are becoming frustrated that even though the hardware took two steps forward these firmware is taking us two steps backwards.
So in this box we have good hardware on average firmware I would have liked to see the inclusion of a navigation bar and status bar, along with the root switch in this box like its previous model running on the S905X3 chipset. I don’t expect there would be any major firmware updates for this box as it’s a limited-edition unless sales push manufacturers to do so.
