Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Certified Android TV OS Review

Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Review

The Xiaomi Mi TV stick is a streaming device that caught the attention of a lot of people in the streaming community, because it has a stark resemblance of the Amazon fire TV stick. This placed it in a position of high expectation to deliver premium streaming services in HD and 4K quality, and to somewhat be a direct competitor to the Amazon fire TV stick. In this review it was discovered that even though the Mi TV stick has some of the attributes of a premium streaming device such as certified Google Android TV OS, Netflix ESN certification, Google Widevine level 1, Chromecast, Google assistant, and a wireless voice remote with a quill assistant button. The Mi TV stick fell short in some critical areas mainly limiting its display resolution to 1080p only, excluding HDR display and Dolby vision, using dated hardware with low CPU clock speeds, and not including any sort of USB or SD card slot for expandable storage. The TV stick is functional, it does play premium streaming services in HD only, and the Google assistant feature along with Chromecast works as it should. Surprisingly I did get Dolby and DTS surround sound audio output. More details below.

Xiaomi Mi TV stick Pros and Cons

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi TV Stick I must say makes me feel cheated a bit. Yes it has Netflix and Amazon Prime video in HD, but not 4K. There is no HDR and Dolby vision display, and they used dated hardware. I was expecting more from this TV stick, but these cons are too glaring and will be a deal breaker for potential buyers.
