Introduction to StreamX X2 MAX
Welcome to my blog! So, today, I’m excited to review the latest live TV and video-on-demand model from StreamX. Indeed, this is the StreamX X2 MAX. Not only does it have an elite design, but it also offers some interesting features. Therefore, let’s dive right in.
What’s in the Box?
First of all, when you purchase the StreamX X2 MAX, you receive all the standard accessories. Specifically, you get:
- The X2 MAX device
- A Bluetooth voice remote
- One HDMI cable
- A 5V 2A DC power adapter
- A user manual
Clearly, everything you need to get started comes included.
Design and Connectivity
Moving on, the StreamX X2 MAX stands out with its sleek design. In particular, the upper shell is plastic with polished edges, while the base plate is metal. Additionally, it comes with dual Wi-Fi 6 antennas.
Moreover, in terms of connectivity, you get several ports, including:
- HDMI 2.1 port
- Gigabit LAN port
- Optical audio output
- AV port
- IR extender port
- DC input power socket
Furthermore, for external storage, the device includes:
- USB 3.0 port
- USB 2.0 port
- MicroSD card reader
- Reset button
Notably, the front features an LED power light and display. Meanwhile, the base has four rubber feet and ventilation holes, ensuring stability and cooling.
First Startup and Launcher
As soon as you turn it on, a StreamX animation appears, followed by a disclaimer. Interestingly, this disclaimer states that the box does not come with any preinstalled streaming apps. Consequently, accessing content becomes your responsibility.
After that, the setup wizard launches, quickly followed by the main interface. In fact, the launcher provides a simple layout, which includes:
- Shortcut categories
- A left-side settings panel
- Additional shortcut spaces at the bottom
Remote Control Features
By default, the remote operates in infrared mode. However, to enable Bluetooth pairing, simply press the OK and Back buttons together until the LED starts flashing. Then, just go to the settings menu and complete the pairing process.
Streaming and Apps
Since the StreamX X2 MAX is marketed as a live TV and video-on-demand device, you need to install apps from external sources. For this reason, an APK app store becomes necessary.
To demonstrate, I installed the APK app store, which provides access to apps such as:
- Echo TV
- Echo VOD
- Backup TV
- Playback
Although YouTube guidelines prevent me from showing these apps here, you can check out my Odysee channel for a live demo.
StreamX X2 MAX System and Hardware Specs
When it comes to hardware, the StreamX X2 MAX runs on an Allwinner H618 chipset. Specifically, it features:
- 4GB DDR4 RAM
- 64GB internal storage
- Bluetooth 5.0
- Mali G31 GPU with OpenGL ES 3.2
- Android 12 firmware
- Root access enabled
- Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 adapter
- Vulkan API support
Audio and Video Features
Equally important, the device supports several audio and video features, including:
- 4K at 60Hz display
- HDR10 support
- Auto frame rate switching
- Audio passthrough (but no built-in surround sound decoders)
However, it lacks Dolby Vision and AV1 decoding.
NO SURROUND SOUND AUDIO
DRM and Streaming Limitations
Unfortunately, the StreamX X2 MAX comes with Google Widevine L3 and lacks HDCP protection. As a result, services like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ are restricted to 480p resolution. Thus, if HD or 4K streaming on these platforms is essential, this device may not be for you.
StreamX X2 MAX Firmware Features and Issues
On the firmware side, this device offers several features, such as:
- Built-in Chromecast (which does not work)
- Google Assistant voice search (which works with the Bluetooth remote)
- Android TV Google Play Store (with limited app compatibility)
- Miracast for Android screen mirroring (though no AirPlay support)
- YouTube limited to 1440p without HDR

Where Does It Rank?
At present, the StreamX X2 MAX holds position 99 on my ranking chart. Consequently, it receives a 2-star rating out of 5. Overall, its main strength lies in live TV and video-on-demand functionality.
Should You Buy the StreamX X2 MAX?
If you’re searching for a high-performance Android TV box, this device won’t meet your needs. However, if live TV and VOD streaming remain your primary focus, then this box performs exceptionally well.
