Netflix HD 1080p MOD APK
Please note! This modified APK is NOT for getting free Netflix movies, you still need to pay for your subscription. This APK was designed to work on boxes that are Google certified with HDCP protection but lack an official Netflix ESN.
On boxes that do not have a Netflix ESN, if you installed any other Netflix APK movies will be restricted to 480p or 540p resolution even if you have an HD account.
This modified APK provides a workaround allowing you to get Netflix in at least HD 1080p resolution with your subscription on boxes that are Google certified but lack an official Netflix ESN.
It only works on boxes running Android TV OS, with Google Widevine L1 with HDCP 2.2 and over such as this box.
It can work on boxes that do not have Widevine but it will only be 480p/540p resolution, even though it’s showing the HD icon.
To check if your box is qualified to run the app you can download the DRM info app from the Google play store and under Widevine CDM, check for Google Widevine L1 with HDCP 2.2/2.3 or over protection. It says Widevine level L3 with no HDCP protection then this modified APK will be restricted to 480p/540p even though the HD icon is present in the description.
Netflix Resolution Test
Also there is a new feature built into Netflix that will test and give you your TV, projector, monitor, a mobile device current display resolution when you play the video/feature.
An easy way to check the resolution supported by Netflix from your device is this:
Open Netflix
In the search section (the icon with the magnifying glass), type “Test patterns.”
A collection of video patterns organized by resolution and frame rate appears.
This is a snapshot of the modified Netflix running on the BuzzTV HD5 dongle, and in the top right corner it started off 480p then after a minute it went to 720p and then flattened off at HD 1080p.
In my personal usage of this app I discovered that the app first starts to play a little blurry at the lowest resolution and after about 30 seconds it kicks into HD.
