H96 Max V58 TV Box Review
When you think about a powerful TV Box the first box comes to mind is the Nvidia shield, well I ask you to look again at the new H96 Max V58 TV Box. Running on the latest Rockchip RK3588S Octa-Core CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz with 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM, the court core Mali G6 10 GPU, Wi-Fi 6 technology, and a 64GB of internal storage.
This latest model is a beast when used for high-performance 64bit Android gaming, PS2 emulation gaming, surround sound audio, and 4K video playback. In reviewing this model I saw and asserted effort on the behalf of the manufacturers to include premium firmware features seen in the likes of boxes manufactured by Ugoos.
They still have some tweaks to iron out some of the bugs of the firmware, but they basically covered the most critical requirements needed by TV Box enthusiast. The H96 Max V58 is the most powerful full-fledged TV Box are reviewed for 2023. It does two things really well, stream movies and TV shows from APKs and it’s a beast when it comes to 64bit Android gaming and PS2 emulation gaming.
It has the highest benchmarks for a TV Box with its 64bit Octa-Core CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz, and its Mali G610 quad-core GPU with Vulkan support. It has 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM which is double that of your standard model. For those concerned about the longevity, during 3D gaming it does not overheat so you are safe with this model. It’s not the best overall when it comes to firmware features, but they do provide firmware updates so hope they improve on their cons.

Hi.
I bought one of these H96 Max V58 boxes based on the positive review here but wanted to let you know that this box has a serious flaw. It cannot play streaming HVEC so what is the point of a TV box that is fast but can’t stream basic TV formats?
I bought the box , as recommended by you, through “Geekbuying” I left a one star product review on their site to warn others of this flaw but when the review was posted it was posted as a 4 star review so please be aware that the reviews at Geekbuying are misleading.
I’ve had one for a few months. It has hardware HEVC support, but it’s buggy. Some videos (most often from Netflix, but others too) get glitches where a 1-second segment of video keeps playing over and over until it suddenly catches up to where it should be. This bug shows up in “Full” hardware acceleration in VLC, and in Kodi. You can set “partial” acceleration in VLC to avoid it, but that really only works well for 1080P. For 4K video the CPU will be too slow. But many HEVC streams play back fine for me, too.
Unfortunately this bug is still present, even after flashing their latest firmware image.
The lack of navigation and status bar are really annoying me. This is just how Android TV OS works, I guess. I much prefer the normal Android editions, like on my Beelink GT-King. I frequently find myself switching back to that box, when this Max V58 annoys me too much. I’m kind of wondering if I should’ve just gotten the GT-King II instead of this, as an upgrade, even though the GT-King II’s AMLogic chip is slower.
Also – the box doesn’t recognize my all of my USB SD-card adapters. With its lack of an SDcard slot, this is also ridiculously inconvenient.
HDR doesn’t work for me.
I wonder why
In my Lg Oled Tv doesn’t appear HDR logo…
What are you trying to play and what media player are you using?
I’m trying to play from kodi player.
Under Display settings make sure that HDR10 check box is selected.
There are display problems with the videos with 10BIT-SDR-BT.709 format.
10BIT-HDR (color depth: 10bpp, matrix: BT.2020) – works
10BIT-SDR (color depth: 10bpp, matrix: BT.709) – display errors with green stripes!
Has anyone had a similar experience?
If so, hopefully there will be a new firmware in the near future that will fix this problem.
Hi
Have you tried update from China Gadgets Reviews ?
Latest there is dated Sep 24, 2023
https://chinagadgetsreviews.com/download-android-12-stock-firmware-for-h96-max-v58-tv-box-3.html
No have not tried it. It’s nothing special it’s just the stock firmware.
It will require Rockchip drivers for your PC and a special batch tool to flash the firmware.
