Tanggula X5 2023 Edition- Upgraded

Tanggula X5 2023 Edition Review

Tanggula is known for its live TV models, and back in 2022, it released the Tanggula X5 which offered over 10,000 live TV channels and VOD movies. Fast forward to this year we now have the release of the Tanggula X5 2023 edition with updated firmware, and the new software to provide their streaming services. At first, the TangTV app worked great and was one of the better buffer-free services. But with thousands of new customers using their service every day resulted in heavy traffic on their servers resulting in increased buffering and sometimes breakdowns.

So to solve this issue, Tanggula released updates on new models providing alternative sources for streaming movies and TV shows in addition to the primary TangTV app that ran on their primary servers. This proved to be an effective method as some models come with up to 4 additional apps that stream off of different servers and provide buffer-free streams.

Some of the noteworthy changes from the previous model are new firmware switching to a mobile version of Android 11 from the Android TV OS hybrid firmware in the previous model. This model is not rooted, and it now includes screen rotation, a navigation bar, and a full status bar with system controls.

  • Bluetooth – Version 4.1

Compared to other live TV models running on Allwinner chipsets the hardware used in this model outperforms those models with performance benchmarks showing that it has twice the performance and power over those models. Even though they specs are really good, you must take note where it states that the Wi-Fi adapter is dual band AC only, which means it has difficulty connecting to Wi-Fi 6 routers.

The Tanggula X5 2023 has all the required I/O peripherals for connecting to HDMI TVs and audio receivers connected to your home entertainment system. It can also be used on a projector’s and with Bluetooth audio speakers. One thing to note is that due to the tiny ventilation holes below the housing you would want to pay key attention to the possibility of overheating depending on where you intend to place it. So is not recommended to portrait on top of other devices that generates heat. For example, on top of audio receivers.

  • LAN Speed (Based on 250Mbps) – Max 100% GB LAN

These benchmarks in comparison to other boxes is slightly higher due to its CPU clocked at 2.0 GHz. It’s GPU also plays a major part with Vulkan support with open GL ES version 3.2 which makes it great for gaming. However if you intend to play Android games a cooling fan will be required to ensure the longevity of the hardware you overheating. With that said, the box does not overheat if you use it for basic streaming of movies and TV shows.

Tabggula X5 2023 pros and cons

Final Thoughts

In summary the new 2023 version of the X5 basically has a new firmware with an additional stream app to reduce the clutter on their servers providing a more reliable streaming service. The firmware has changed from the hybrid Android TV OS version to the mobile version. The only changes in features I can identify are that it’s not rooted, and you now have a navigation bar and status bar, and built-in screen rotation. Other than that everything else is the same.

    • Unfortunately, Tanggula does not provide firmware downloads for their boxes because it contains the source code for the platform.
They do however provide firmware updates wirelessly on the box.
