Tanix TX9 Pro Amlogic Android 7.1 4K TV Box Review

Tanix TX9 Android 7

So today we review the Tanix TX9 Pro Amlogic S912 Octa Core Android 7.1 4K TV Box. For 2017 we have seen Tanix produce a line of TV boxes and this model is one of the later version. At first glance, the device appears attractive and the hardware spec sheet show that the Tanix TX9 Pro is suppose to rank with other S912 boxes in its class. So in  this review I am going to present my usual examination of its hardware, IO ports, benchmarks, and software environment.

TX9 Software

So as you have already noticed that the Tanix TX9 runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system. Tanix introduced a new launcher design which looks and feels really nice. They have also included some system and social media apps, and they have also included an app called TV Center which is a Kodi 17.4 Krypton build, and it com es preinstalled with addons so you don’t have that worry. However, while performing the benchmarks, 4K sample test, and the 3D gaming test, I noticed that the Android OS needed to be better optimized as I got some difficulty play some of the 4K videos and the 3D graphics was not the best. WiFi reception is really good it maxed out on my 30MB network.

TX9 Benchmarks scores

  • Antutu – 37352
  • Geekbench4 – 491 single-core 2149 multi-core
  • 3D Mark Ice Storm Extreme – 4351
  • RAM copy – 2643 MB/s
  • ROM Speed – Read (117 MB/s) Write (75 MB/s)
  • WiFi Speed – Maxed on my network
  • Rooted – Yes

Conclusion

The Tanix TX9 Pro given the hardware used in this box should have scored better in the benchmarks. The TV center/Kodi application played movies and TV shows OK, with the option to install Kodi from the Google Play store. The 4K sample playback and the 3D gaming was not the best.
