Mecool KI Pro Review
The concept of the Mecool KI Pro Hybrid TV Box that features digital TV tuner combined with online streaming is quite the solution for anyone looking for an all in one device. In this review, we will get to see if the Mecool KI Pro is worth investing in, along with benchmarks to see the performance of this hybrid device.
Main Hardware Features
The Mecool KI pro runs on an Amlogic S905D quad core CPU, running up to 1.5GHz. My thoughts on this is that the S905 CPU only has support for the Mali 450, which also is the GPU being used in this box. Which begs to question what is the core purpose of this TV box? Reason being is that CPU is 2 generations old. There is th S905X and the S912, which are far better CPUs to use in this device.
It comes with 2GB of DDR4 RAM which I find surprising, and 16GB of internal storage. It comes with dual band AC 802.11 2.4GHz + 5.8GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0
The Mecool KI Pro runs on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat that is not rooted, and it comes with two specialized apps which is the DTV app and the TV Center app. The DTV app controls the tuner / digital channel receiver side of the box, and the TV Center app is an installation for a custom version of Kodi. Other apps include Google Play Store, Chrome browser, YouTube, App Installer, Media Center, MiraCast, MX Player, and Netflix.
1 DVB-T2 – Digital antenna input
1 DVB-S2 – Cable and Arial antenna input
4 USB 2.0
1 RJ45 Ethernet LAN
1 Composite output
1 Optical audio
1 SD card
1 DC Power input
The Mecool KI Pro is an all-in-one solution for streaming digital channels over the air, and streaming channels online. However, my personal thoughts is that the box should have been rooted, and they should have used the Amlogic A912 CPU and the Mali T820 GPU and this box would have been one of my top favorites for my end of year review.
