Ugoos X4Q Pro – The Best TV Box below $100

Ugoos X4Q Pro TV Box Review

So the new Ugoos X4Q Pro and this new line of boxes come in three versions the X4Q Cube which is their 2GB 16GB model. The X4Q Pro which is their 4GB 32GB model, and the X4Q Plus which is their 4GB 64GB model. In reviewing the Pro model you can tell that Ugoos takes the developing of their boxes very seriously that’s why I can safely say that they are the best TV Box manufacturers in the industry to date. Most TV Box developers tend to just order boxes and slap their brand wanted and expect the manufacturer to do all the research and development, and the firmware updates for their models.

What ever is the process for developing a Ugoos boxes is totally different and sets the backside from all the others. The features they deliver on models carrying similar hardware toward the others speaks volume to their research and development, proved testing, and quality assurance before the release a model. In this new lineup they introduced even more features than they already had from previous models taking them one step closer to being the perfect Android streaming device. One such feature is Google Widevine L1 with HDCP 2.2 protection running on the mobile version of Android.

So the manufacturer of this box is Ugoos, and this is the Pro model so it comes with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and its Bluetooth version is 5.1. Its CPU is the Amlogic S905X4, a quad-core cortex A55 CPU configured in 32bit mode with a maximum CPU clock speed of 2.0GHz.

Its displays powered by the Mali G31 GPU with open GL version 3.2 support which is a great for gaming. It has a dual band 2.4Ghz + 5GHz Wi-Fi AC network adapter. Operating system is Android 11 and it’s currently not rooted, but it does have a root switch.

Its GPU has Vulkan API version 1.1 support which is another good feature for gaming. Its idle operating temperature is around 49°C which is pretty low for its CPU clocked at 2.0 GHz. It comes with all the decoders for the playback of 4K HDR videos, AV1, and Dolby vision videos.
And it has surround sound audio decoders such as Dolby Atmos eac3, and DTS HD.

Its design is an evolved version of their previous X3 model which was intended to function as a large dongle. However in this model they dropped the dongle format and went with a full TV Box design, while at the same time preserving some of the features of the X3. To the top you have the Ugoos X4Q Pro branding and you have an LED power and activity indicator, a feature adopted from its previous version.

For input output peripherals it has one HDMI 2.0 port, one ethernet gigabit LAN port, one USB 2.0 port, and a USB type C power delivery port. This Type C power delivery port is another one of the features from the previous model.
To its side it has one USB 3.0 port, one optical audio port, and a microSD card reader. On the opposite side you have ventilation holes.

To the front you have an IR sensor. And below the box you have an antiskid rubber pad, a reset button, and no ventilation holes.

Its 5GHz band along with the LAN port which is a gigabit LAN port achieved the maximum speed of my network of 154 Mbps, and this should be your choice for maximum speed.

The 2.4GHz band however it does work but it’s restricted to only 17% of my network speed. In the Geekbench 5 CPU benchmark it scored 155 single-core and 537 multicore.

In benchmarking its GPU in the 3DMark gamers benchmark it qualified only for the wildlife test with Vulkan support, and it scored 189.

Final thoughts

In summary the X4Q Pro is definitely the best medium-range TV Box for 2022 and it topped the TOX3 with more features, performance, and Google certification on the mobile version.
The only issue I have with this box is that it does not have a Netflix ESN certification.

So if you’re looking for my recommendation on which the best TV Box to purchase within the medium range price bracket then, I highly recommend that you look no further as Ugoos is the best in the industry.
At the point of making this review it’s only available on AliExpress at the lowest prices, and it will soon be available and other retail stores and Amazon.

    • Where I live is not in the US So even if I were to sell you the product you would end up paying more for it than if you ordered online because I would have to charge you for that additional shipping.
It gets even worse if you live outside of the US such as myself as higher rates would apply.
Living in the US does have its shipping advantages. So I won’t be able to sell you this box as I would prefer to select to some family member or friend locally in my country that does not involve the shipping cost.

  1. Holy sh*t. Is this the first box that comes with Dolby Vision, all the audio formats and a 1gig port?

Also, you mentioned the audio formats work in Kodi, how does that normally compare to Plex? From watching some of your videos in the past, I’ve noticed that it can be a bit of a hit-and-miss when expecting the same capabilities from Plex as Kodi.

  2. Clicked on your coupon and the aliexpress site says “This product can’t be shipped to your address.” I live in the US. However, the TOX3 boxes have no issue. What gives?

  3. Hi,
Thanks for this very detailed benchmark 🙂
I have an issue with the box and support is not really responsive. Air-mouse doesn’t works out of the box, is there any trick to enable ?
Is installing coreElec make me lose the original OS ? I was thinking of trying coreElec but I’m afraid of breaking the box 🙁
    thanks for all

    • Yes go to your Bluetooth settings and see if the Ugoos remote is listed. If it is listed as a previously paired device then remove it and add a new device.
Then press and hold the board volume button at the same time until the LED start flashing and it will prepare as a device to pair to.
Select it to reconnect the remote the box. Running CoreELEC will not break the box, as it runs off and SSD card or USB drive. Once you inserted the card press and hold reset button and then turn on power and will boot into CoreELEC.
