Homatics Box R 4K Plus Google Certified TV Box

Homatics Box R 4K Plus TV Box Review

So if you are looking for a high quality Google certified TV Box to stream your favorite paid subscription services in HD and 4K, then the Homatics Box R 4K Plus is just the box for you. This box as an all new elegant design with its CPU heatsink cooling system to the top of the box in the form of a high polished aluminum plate. It’s one of the rear boxes that comes with a USB type C port. However, during my review it could not read any of my pen drives only power devices.

What I like about this box is that they took the time based on concerns of the TV Box users in the community and carefully crafted the firmware to suit the needs. For example even though it’s fully Google certified with HDR and HLG HDR display the insured to implement the ability to disable HDR or to set it to auto HDR. They made sure to leave nothing out so you have a fully Google certified TV Box equipped to run paid subscription services in HD and 4K.

Final thoughts

Well there isn’t much that I don’t like about the Homatics Box R 4K Plus. With a fully Google certified model such as this one that delivers on all aspects needed to play paid sufficient services such as Netflix, Amazon prime video, Disney+ in HD and 4K with Dolby vision. Where the issues lie in this box is when it comes to playing self hosted videos with surround sound audio. Yes it can’t play Dolby Atmos, DTS Neural X, and even Dolby TrueHD. But for some strange reason it’s not processing DTS HD-MA and DTS X. These are not the deal breakers as most paid subscription services don’t use them anyway, they usually use Dolby Atmos.

  1. This appears to be what I’m looking for, to replace my Roku streaming device.
The Roku does OK for streaming the Video channels I subscribe to, but it doesn’t have apps for some Audio services.
I’ve installed and used Qobuz and UAPP (USB Audio Player Pro) on various phones, tablets, and DAPs (Digital Audio Players) through the years, but there aren’t any equivalent apps for Roku.
I also don’t know whether they work on Android 11 ATV OS.
Can you say whether Qobuz and UAPP can be installed (and run) on the Homatics Box R 4K Plus?
    Thanks, David Baldock

    • These apps should install and work without issues however, both apps and not available on the Android TV version of the play store. Which means you would have to download the APK via pen drive and install them on the box.
These apps are only available for install on the mobile version of the play store but it should install without issues by sideloading. The box is fully rooted and certified which means that apps should not have any issues about running due to the user having root access.

      • Thanks for your reply.
I did buy a Box R 4K Plus, and was able to use the Downloader app to install the UAPP & Qobuz apk files.
UAPP works just fine on the device – including the built-in Qobuz client.
However – the Qobuz app (latest version) is unusable on this device in landscape mode, since it will only display in portrait mode. Also, once it gets past the login screen, the display was just flashing back-and-forth between the left 1/3rd and middle 1/3rd of the TV screen, and neither the Remote nor connected Keyboard & Trackball could interact with it to change any settings. So, Qobuz has been uninstalled – and I’ll just use the UAPP Qobuz client.
As a comparison – this Box R 4K Plus seems to have a “clearer” image on my Samsung UN32J5003AF TV, using the same cables that were connecting my Roku Ultra (4670B).

  2. Type-C is not intended to use for extending memory size.
It’s for external tuner (DVB-T2 or DVB-S2) but it looks like just european seller has got such tuners for 18 euros. May be you would add a remote command with digits, 13 euros (they call “big” RCU), so you have to add 31 euros in order to have an hybrid box. Total is a bit expensive.
