A95X F3 Air II S905W2 Android 11 AV1 TV Box

A95X F3 Air II Amlogic S905W2 Android 11 AV1 TV Box Review

This is the A95X F3 Air II and for some of us we have seen this movie before, with the RGB disco lights and a cool firmware features. However, we are starting to wonder how much funding or manpower is put into firmware development. The reason for saying this, is that we are starting to see a definite pattern when it comes brands releasing there models on a particular chipset. So if a particular firmware isn’t good then you tend to see that same problem expand across various brands. Which says that no one is looking for originality to set them aside from the rest.

The Amlogic S905W2 chipset when integrated into a mainboard provides an excellent medium grade SOC. It delivers good video playback features such as AV1 decoding on the Mali G31 GPU that delivers good graphics rendering. It’s CPU can be clocked up to 2.0 GHz and remain stable without overheating, and can run on Android 11 operating system. This is the right ingredients for the average TV Box user to have a great streaming/Android gaming experience.

A95X F3 Air II User Experience

However, A95X F3 Air II somewhat disappointing given the brands track record in the previous models. Offering unique features such as root switch, hardware monitor, surround sound formats such as DTS X/DTS HD MA/, firmware updates, full access to Google play services updates, and other critical features. In this model you are getting a sense of laziness or simply just going along with what ever the factory is putting out for them to put their brand on.

In this model there are some things that they could have demanded such as 1000 Mbps Ethernet LAN, Vulkan GPU support, Google play services updates, root access, and missing surround sound formats. With that said not all bad with this box in fact it’s streaming, 4K video playback, and gaming performance and benchmarks are acceptable. All it needs is a write a firmware update to correct some of the issues.

A95X F3 Air II Pros and Cons

Final Thoughts

I would have to see that honestly am a bit disappointed with this their A95X F3 Air II model, because I consider A95X to be in the same category as Ugoos in terms of firmware features. I was expecting to see trademark features such as root access, hardware monitor, along with open Google play access. Instead they took the easy road and used the same firmware as the other models for example the A95X W2 that has the same issues.

Of late it has been difficult in the SOC market waiting for good boards to be released, that has been affected lower manufacturing since COVID. Instead they could have focused a bit more on a user experience and firmware features to satisfy the needs of the TV Box community. That does not require hardware, and all it needs is for the RND department to ensure that whatever they are ordering from the factory has all the checkmarks.

  1. You said in the video that there is an android tv os version firmware available for this device and you will make a guide for installing it in a next video, but you haven’t posted something yet

    • That’s so very true. The truth is I am so strapped for time I struggle to get these side videos done. It’s like I am always on a treadmill with pending reviews for sponsors.
Believe it or not being a product review video creator is a business that always has sponsors and deadlines, unless you you can buy all your products yourself.
I can’t promise that video right away but I will try to keep it in mind.
