High-end Hardware

The Cloudnetgo CR19 comes with some good high-end hardware, much like the other RK3399 models it runs on the Rockchip RK3399 hexa core CPU. However, in the CR19 they governed down the CPU clock speed to 1.8GHz to better manage the chance of over heating. The onboard GPU is the ARM Mali T860 quad core GPU. Unlike most other TV boxes that uses the Mali T820 tri core GPU, the Mali T860 provides better image quality and faster performance. For a TV box to be able to handle good multitasking, it must have sufficient RAM to run apps in the background. The CR19 comes with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

For additional storage the CR19 comes with a SATA 3.0 port, along with an included SATA connector cable. This gives you the flexibility to connect an external hard drive for Terabytes of additional storage. There are very few boxes that provide this feature. You have standard dual band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 supported by a heavy duty external antenna.

Firmware Features

The Cloudnetgo CR19 runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system and it is rooted. The launcher is simple and easy to use, and it comes with a navigation for multitasking. It comes with a couple of social media apps, and online streaming for your enjoyment. The box can play 4K videos  in various formats, and play many Android games.

Benchmark Scores

  • Antutu – 107306
  • Geekbench4 – 1242 single/ 2809 multi
  • Ice Storm Extreme – 9363
  • RAM Copy – 8234 MB/s
  • Internal Storage – 111 MB/s / 79 MB/s
  • SD Card Speed – 13MB/s

So to conclude this review, the CR19 comes with some pros and cons. And I’ll start with the positive aspects. Well first of all, the design and ports provided on this box is top in the industry. You have an array of ports including an external SATA hard drive connection, 2 USB 3.0 ports, and a USB Type C. Cloudnetgo’s choice of the Rockchip hexa core CPU along with the Mali T860 GPU, with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage is a nice configuration. The launcher comes with a navigation bar. The firmware is rooted. It has high benchmark scores. The WiFi reception is very good. It can play most 4K video formats. And its a good Android gamer.

On the down side. The box had some difficulty with one of the 4K video sample. It can run a bit hot at times, not constantly, but during peak stressful activities. The firmware needs updating to correct a message that flashes across the bottom of the screen at times. And you cannot install the SuperSU application because it puts the box into a boot loop, This also prevents keymapping apps from working. Most of these issues can be corrected by a firmware update, and when this is done, the CR19 will be a TV box to reckon with.

    • I’m sorry King Khan but that’s the best discount I can get for this box. I don’t work at GearBest, but I have affiliations with them, and that the best coupon I got.

  2. I received one yesterday and spent a few hours setting it up and playing around. I plugged it in to my tv and a wireless keyboard(usb dongle) and it saw both immediately. My observations:
    Speed ok but not special.
Launcher is pretty limited, can’t modify the main area.
Smaller remote has no function and no explanation.
    Large remote requires accurate pointing.
Playing music via kdmc while moving around in launcher caused the music to hiccup with each click. (Not using the multi-core very well?)
Tried to open the box but the screws won’t budge and I have tried everything short of stripping them.

I’m going to drill out the screw heads as I don’t want to damage the board. I need to see if the internal flash is removable. My goal is to load linux and make it a server. No time for that yet.

    • Ok, I decided to open it. DON’T DO THAT! There is no removable flash drive inside. The screws are hardened steel and ate up two drill bits. The case is a very precise cast pot metal and the bottom plate is stamped steel. The whole thing is very well made and a precise fit. The pcb is custom and stamped as cr19.

I took a picture of the board but don’t see a way to post it. Fixed the over-bright power led with a sharpie. I drilled a hole in the top of the case right above the heatsink to aid in cooling.

I’m done for now until I can find out if it will dual boot. I hope some OS experts will take up the challenge.
